Early College for Out-of-State Students

Out-of-state students, international students attending US high schools, and homeschool students

The UMaine Machias seeks to provide greater access to early college opportunities for recommended out-of-state high school students from across the country.  Out-of-state students pay a special early college rate of $138.25/ credit hour for up to 12 credits per year.  Students that complete an early college course will have grades placed on an official UMaine Machias transcript.

How to Apply Presentations

To register for Early College courses you will need to create an account on the ExplorEC Portal and submit an application.  You will also need your school counselor to submit a recommendation form.  The recommendation form is NOT required for homeschool students or for accepted students looking to take courses in the spring semester before their high school graduation.

Important Financial Information

Tuition is charged at a special reduced Early College rate of $138.25/credit hour for up to 12 credits per year.  This is a significant discount since our 2021-2022 out-of-state online tuition rate is $352 per/credit hour and the NEBHE rate is $480/credit hour for qualifying students in MA, NH, VT, CT, or RI.  Students are responsible for textbooks.  Textbooks can be purchased online through our online campus bookstore or from a store of your choosing.  Students have the choice of buying or renting textbooks or e-books.

**For billing purposes the academic year runs from July 1st to June 30th.  Students who choose to take more than 12 credits or students who go over their 12 credits will be charged the regular out-of-state tuition rate of $352/credit hour.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of the number of credits they are taking per year.
