The laboratory is the center of GIS training at UMaine Machias, offering world-class instruction to students via in-person and distance learning courses.

Students interested in studying GIS can pursue multiple pathways, including a four-year major in environmental geographic information science, introductory and advanced GIS certificates, and a GIS minor. In addition, GIS is incorporated into the curriculum of all environmental and biological science programs at the university.
