Bio:

Dr. Heather Ball is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Maine at Machias. Dr. Ball transitioned from a career in K–12 education to develop curriculum and coursework in special education at UMaine Machias. In collaboration with state and local educational agencies and leaders, Dr. Ball advanced a program to prepare highly qualified teachers of students who have disabilities through the delivery of accessible coursework and training in rural communities. In working to meet this goal, Ball has served as faculty and coordinator of the Education and Special Education Programs at the University of Maine at Machias; Chair of the Professional Studies Division at UMaine Machias; and Director of the Washington-Hancock Regional Teacher Development Center. Through the transition of UMaine Machias to a regional campus of the University of Maine, Dr. Ball has served on multiple cross-campus planning and implementation teams, as well as the Regional Campus Task Force. As Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at UMaine Machias, she has been a member of the University of Maine Dean’s Council since 2020. Dr. Ball is President of the Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy of Maine, and has served as Chair of the Eastern Maine Community College Education Program Advisory Board, Faculty Representative to the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, and Regional Advisor for the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Program in Hancock County. Dr. Ball holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine. Her research agenda has focused on the education of Indigenous students in Maine and the use of constructive communication in navigating conflict in educational settings.
