Pandemic Student Emergency Funds Initiative
Thanks to a generous grant from the MELMAC Education Foundation, the University of Maine at Machias is pleased to have the opportunity to offer direct emergency relief payments to currently enrolled students who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Students must apply for the funding by Jan. 4, 2021. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in full-time study (12 credit hours) during the fall 2020 semester, and registered for 12 credit hours for the spring 2021 semester.
Up to $500 for each qualifying student will be disbursed to address the following emergency needs:
- Assistance with housing insecurity, including rent and utility payments
- Assistance with food insecurity
- Costs of equipment or technology to participate in remote learning including books, laptops, internet services
- Costs related to mental health or counseling that exceed campus services
- Unplanned or additional child care costs necessary to complete classwork
- Unexpected medical expenses
- Transportation needs including car repairs
Qualified student emergencies do not include:
- Tuition, fees, or fines on student accounts
- Credit card debt
- Non-essential expenses
