The editor of a new anthology featuring poems, essays and fiction by authors from New England, Canada and sovereign tribal nations will deliver a free public reading at the University of Maine at Machias Merrill Library at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30.

Light refreshments will be served. The reading is part of Celebrate UMM Days; see the full calendar of events at machias.edu/celebrate-umm. For more information or to request a reasonable accommodation, call 255.1254.

Valerie Lawson, a 2017 graduate of UMM’s Bachelor of College Studies program, with a concentration in book arts and electronic publishing, is the editor of 3 Nations Anthology: Native, Canadian and New England Writers, which received the Maine Literary Award for Anthology in 2018.

The collection, published by Resolute Bear Press, is described as an exploration “of the things that divide, the bridges between, and the intense love of this rugged region the people hold in common.”
