UMM Students Reclaim Greenhouse

A group of University of Maine at Machias senior students have been reclaiming UMM’s greenhouse to augment local produce offered on campus. Over the past few weeks, they cleared out all dead plants, performed soil tests, augmented the soil and planted seeds.  According to  Nicole Ouellette, the students started seeds for kale, carrots, onions, strawberries, tomatoes and butter crunch lettuce. Ouellette said the project started in early March and will continue over the summer, with all harvested food donated to the UMM Food Recovery Network. Student Hannah Barnhart, in the photo, provided soil amendments.
