Summer camp opportunities on campus: Educational, Environmental, Enriching, Athletic

A wide variety of athletic and educational summer camps for both children and adults is scheduled at the University of Maine at Machias. From basketball to bookbinding, the programs offer something for everyone.

The Clipper Athletics Camps are a great way to develop fundamental skills and learn how to compete as a member of a group. Team concepts are emphasized, helping young athletes thrive on and off the field or court. Coaches and members of the UMM Clippers men’s and women’s athletics teams will serve as camp staff.

Girls’ Basketball Camp runs from June 26-29 and is $150. Boys’ Basketball Camp runs from July 10-13 and is also $150. Both camps are for students entering K-12th grades. For students entering K-12th grades. Check in for day camps will be from 8:30 a.m.- 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday at the Reynolds Center Gym, with camps ending at 4 p.m. each day. Lunch is included in the cost of the camp. Students will be grouped together by age and skill level. Campers should bring water bottles and extra socks as well as an extra change of clothes. A $25 deposit per week is required, with the remainder due prior to or at check in.

An environmental adventure, MESSY Camp is for students entering grades 5-8. It runs from July 17-21 and is $150. MESSY runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Monday-Friday each day, with lunch included. MESSY is a summer day camp like no other, where students will engage in hands-on learning that is focused on environmental education, stewardship, and sustainability. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside University of Maine at Machias faculty, actively participating in important work in the field and in the classroom. Students will spend time exploring coastal marine life and investigating local streams and forests to create solutions for real-world environmental problems. A $25 deposit per week is required for each week enrolled, with the remainder due prior to or at check in.

Clipper Kids Day Camp runs from July 24-August 7 and is $125 per week or $375 for all three weeks. The sessions are July 24-28, July 31-Aug. 4, and Aug. 11-17 For children 6-13 years of age, Clipper Kids Day Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, with lunch and snacks included. Clipper Kids will be limited to 20 campers per week. Pre-registration is required and walk-ins cannot be accommodated. The Clipper Kids Day Camp offers a great opportunity for children with lots of energy to explore a number of different activities and games. This action packed camp will provide an environment that focuses on fair play and maximum participation. Our instructors will direct the camp through cooperative games, pool activities, a variety of sports, and more. Each week activities will be centered around a specific theme. A $25 deposit per week is required, with the remainder due prior to or at check in.

Summer On The Hill adult enrichment classes include: Book Repair 101, Mondays: May 15, 22, 29, June 5, $120; Landscape Painting with Soft Pastels, Saturdays: June 3, 10, 17, 24, $130; and Felt Making & Surface Design, Tuesdays:- June 13, 20, 27, July 11, $100.
