UMM Recognized for Affordability and Online Education

For the second time this fall, the University of Maine at Machias has been nationally recognized as leading Maine in innovation, affordability and online education. UMM was named sixth in the state as one of Maine’s Best Online Colleges by Affordable Colleges Online (ACO).
In ranking UMM, ACO noted “Today, online education has been embraced by traditional brick-and-mortar universities and colleges. Maine’s private and public online schools offer diverse undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificate programs, as well as continuing education courses. Some institutions stand above the others based on sustained academic excellence and a support network providing student services for distance learners.” UMM was recognized as having one of the most innovative programs in the state.
UMM is an environmental liberal arts higher education school – the only public school of its kind in New England, and it offers 9 online courses.
ACO released UMM’s ranking this week, following similar honors last month when UMM was ranked 78th out of the top 250 U.S. colleges and universities for affordability by LendEdu. UMM is only one of two Maine colleges to make the affordability list.  Both Affordable Colleges Online and LendEdu are resource tools for parents and students seeking affordability and accreditation in higher education.
ACO also honored UMM last month based on affordability, a ranking assessed by the average debt load per graduate. For UMM grads, that amount was $21,834.

“UMM is a unique institution in terms of mission, signature programs, and level of student support. Our goal is to provide our students with not only a top quality education but with a unique a higher education experience that is affordable as well,” President Sue Huseman said. “We want our students to leave UMM prepared for rich, satisfying personal and professional lives in which they aren’t struggling to meet college debt obligations as they chart their future pathways.”
