Here, you will find vital information to help you prepare for college and assist in your transition to the UMaine Machias community. We’re thrilled you’ve decided to join our community. Now it’s time to get ready for an exciting semester ahead! This New Student Checklist will guide you through everything you need to do before classes begin – from housing and financial aid to transcripts, immunizations, and more. Complete each step at your own pace, and you’ll be ready to start your UMaine Machias journey with confidence.

🏡 1. Secure Your On-Campus Housing

Make UMaine Machias your home away from home! Submit your housing application and explore residential life details online.

💰 2. Complete Your Financial Aid

Ensure your financial aid is ready before the semester begins:

Submit your FAFSA at studentaid.gov (School Code: 002053)
Submit by March 1 for priority consideration (you can still apply after the deadline).
Check your status in MaineStreet once submitted.

📜 3. Submit Your Final Transcripts

We need your official records before classes start:

High school seniors: Send your final transcript after graduation.
Transfer students: Request official transcripts from any previous colleges.

💉 4. Submit Your Immunization Records

Maine state law requires all students to provide proof of immunizations before arriving on campus. Students should use the University of Maine Immunization Portal (PointNClick) to securely submit copies of their immunization records.

📊 5. Take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment

Complete the online ALEKS Math Placement Assessment to ensure proper math course placement.
💡 A $25 fee will be added to your student bill for the assessment.

If you need accommodations, register with our Student Accessibility Services team.

🔑 1. Activate Your UMS Account

Before you can access university systems, you’ll need to activate your University of Maine System (UMS) account. This gives you access to your student portal, email, MaineStreet, and more.

👉 Activate Your Account

How to activate:

Go to the activation page and select “Activate Your Account.”
Enter your student ID number and activation key (found in your acceptance letter).
Once activated, you’ll receive your username, password, and official @maine.edu email address.

💻 2. Log In to Your Student Portal & MaineStreet

Your UMS Portal is your one-stop hub for important student tools, including:

Gmail, Google Calendar, and IT Support
Financial aid and billing information
Class registration and academic records

📋 3. Check Your “To Do” List

Inside MaineStreet, you’ll find a personalized checklist of items to complete – like submitting transcripts, uploading immunization records, or completing placement tests. Make sure to check it often so you don’t miss any important steps.

✉️ 4. Set Up and Monitor Your @maine.edu Email

Your @maine.edu email is how we’ll communicate with you about important topics like financial aid, housing, class schedules, and more. Check it regularly or forward it to your preferred inbox so you never miss a message.
