Merrill Library is here to support your academic success at UMM. We provide resources to help with research, assignments, and collaborative projects. Students can also use our ILLiad Interlibrary Loan service to access materials from other libraries. UMaine Libraries’ collection includes millions of print and physical items, e-books, online journals, research databases, and streaming music and video.

Through LibrarySearch and the statewide MaineCat catalog, students may also borrow materials from nearby libraries, while Interlibrary Loan provides access to materials held by libraries around the world.

If your instructor has materials on reserve you can find them by searching the library’s course reserves system using the course name, number, instructor, or title.

UMaine Libraries’ Special Collections at Fogler Library in Orono features bibliographies, historical works, and literature that explore Maine’s cities, people, and institutions. The collection also includes manuscripts, rare books, and University of Maine records. As a regional depository, the library provides access to U.S., Canadian, and Maine state government publications. These resources are available for students to explore for research or personal enrichment.

UMaine students have free access to hundreds of databases through the library catalog, covering a wide range of subjects and disciplines to support their academic needs.

UMaine’s Digital Commons is an open-access repository that showcases and preserves the scholarly and creative works of the University of Maine community. It includes a wide array of digital content such as research papers, theses, dissertations, faculty publications, conference proceedings, and multimedia projects. Accessible to the public, Digital Commons provides a platform for UMaine researchers and creators to share their work widely, fostering academic collaboration and enhancing the visibility of UMaine’s contributions to global scholarship.

Reserve the Very Quiet Study room

Merrill Library’s Very Quiet Study Room offers a quiet space for students to study or attend virtual meetings. Student reservations take priority and can be made below, up to three hours daily.
