Alan Kryszak

Al Kryszak is a filmmaker and composer, teaching creative arts coursework at The University of Maine at Machias, including Downeast Documentary, Music in Film and Applied Music, as well as independent studies in Visually Impaired Media Production. The third feature film directed with his Downeast Documentary class, “When The Chevy Breaks” (How Small Towns Fix Big Problems), was featured at the first University of Maine Film Festival and will premier on Maine Public Television in 2020.

Film scores includes 9 film scores for Turner Classic Movies, music for Lincoln Center & NY Shakespeare Festival Film Series, and KINO International. Kryszak’s films have premiered at The Toronto Short Film Festival and on PBS/Maine Public Television. “Whatever Works: Exploring Opiate Addiction” won a Docs Without Borders Film Festival award, followed by “Who Made You In America?”, exploring some surprising rural perspectives on Immigration and post-2016 Nationalism.

Other music credits include 10 solo albums, four alt-prog releases, and performances at Carnegie Recital Hall, The World Financial Center, Symphony Space, The Kitchen, Arts at St. Ann’s, Mabou Mines, The Atlantic Center for the Arts and The North American New Music Festival.

Kryszak works out of his media studio in East Machias, and welcomes students of all levels and backgrounds to explore art through technology.
