5 Umaine Engineering students practicing building scaffolding

Begin your career with the support of UMaine Machias’ academic community. Complete your degree at Maine’s premier research institution.

Choosing the field of engineering can be one of the best lifetime decisions a student will ever make. The number of engineering jobs in Maine has grown 25% in the last decade and the demand for engineering graduates is high, with over 1,400 job postings in Maine last year. The majority of engineering seniors receive job offers well before graduation, with an average annual starting salary of more than $60,000.

The Pre-Engineering program at the University of Maine at Machias is a collaborative effort across campuses, enabling students to start their academic journey at the UMaine campus in Machias. From there, they can seamlessly transition to one of eleven select engineering programs available at the University of Maine. This 1+3 program offers students the opportunity to begin their studies in a smaller cohort environment at UMaine’s coastal regional campus, before finishing their degree at Maine’s flagship and premier research campus.

Absolutely! One of the perks of being a regional campus of UMaine, is that our students get to reside on the smaller campus, while still having access to events and facilities on the UMaine campus. UMaine Machias provides transportation to multiple UMaine events ranging from Hockey games to Multicultural festivals. Parking passes and ID cards work on the UMaine campus as well, allowing students to access sporting events, recreational facilities, and more!
