Honors are awarded based on the following:

Associate Degrees, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above

Baccalaureate Degrees are conferred with Latin honors (gold cords), at commencement, for the following attainments of rank

  • summa cum laude: 3.70 GPA
  • magna cum laude: 3.50 GPA
  • cum laude: 3.30 GPA

* The University bases the GPA only on the student’s work at the University of Maine at Machias.

  • Ordering will end on April 1, 2024. Please order as soon as possible to ensure you receive your order in time.
  • Orders will be mailed to the shipping address you provide.
  • Cap, gown, & tassel colors:
    • Associates (2-year) Degrees: cap and gown is black, tassel is navy.
    • Bachelors (4-year) Degrees:  cap and gown is black, tassel is black.
    • Certificates (Family Futures, Early College, etc.):  cap and gown is black, tassel is white.

Rehearsal: 

  • Date: Friday, May 3, 2024
  • Time: 3:00 p.m.
  • Where: Torrey Hall, First Floor Hallway

Please note:

  • Students participating in the commencement ceremony do not need tickets for themselves. 
  • Tickets are required for guests attending the event in the Performing Arts Center, however, there will be limited space for guests without tickets to watch the event livestream in Science 102 and the Reynold’s Center Conference Room. Seating for these additional spaces is first come, first served.
  • Students who are participating in the commencement ceremony are guaranteed 3 guest tickets for Performing Arts Center seating. If you have additional guests you would like tickets for, you may request to be put on the waiting list for additional guest tickets by emailing me @Sarahmarie Abernethy. Any available waitlist tickets will be first come, first served and there is no guarantee that waitlist tickets will be available.
    • Please note, the selling or buying of UMM Commencement tickets is strictly prohibited. 
    • Any tickets that are discovered to have been bought or sold through email, social media, etc. will be forfeited.
    • Guest tickets cannot be replaced if lost or stolen.
  • Tickets will be available in the Office of the Dean and Campus Director in Powers Hall, room 101 from April 1st – April 5th, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m (closed April 3rd).

Faculty and students marching in regalia do not need tickets.
