Longtime English professor Myrna Bouchey passes away

Myrna Bouchey, professor emerita of English at the University of Maine at Machias, passed away on Dec. 14.

Bouchey taught at UMaine Machias from 1972 until she retired in 1997. With a clear, intelligent voice and compassionate instruction, she educated generations of effective writers and critical thinkers from Downeast Maine and beyond. An early feminist and champion of diversity in literature, she ensured the campus community was exposed to African American literature, poetry from the margins, women writers and world literature.
