UMaine Machias to hold its 113th commencement May 5

MACHIAS, Maine — The University of Maine at Machias will welcome students and their families to its 113th commencement ceremony at the Performing Arts Center on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m. Fifty-five students will celebrate their degree completion, and an additional 29 students will have their degrees conferred.

The event will be livestreamed for those without tickets or unable to join who would like to watch the ceremony.  A livestream viewing area that doesn’t require tickets will also be available on campus in the Science Building, room 102. Following the commencement ceremony, two food trucks, East Coast BBQ and Freshies Wood Fired Pizza, will be available on the mall for lunch purchases, along with seating for graduates and their guests.

Bayleigh Alley of Jonesport, Maine and Gabriel Rocca of New Milford, Connecticut are the 2024 UMaine Machias valedictorian and salutatorian. Alley is an education major concentrating in elementary education with a minor in social studies, and Rocca is an integrative biology major with a minor in botany. 

The 2024 commencement address will be delivered by Kyle Pepperman, a 2009 UMaine Machias marine biology graduate with a minor in chemistry. Pepperman is the president of the university’s Alumni Association, serves on the university’s Board of Visitors and is the associate director of technology transfer at the Downeast Institute on Beals Island, Maine, which serves as the marine field station for UMaine Machias.
