Downeast Salmon Federation, Conservation Hatcheries and the Atlantic Salmon Life Cycles

with Mitch Monini

Free Register

Here is your unique chance to explore the conservation hatcheries and learn about Maine’s Atlantic Salmon life cycles.  Why not join us at the Peter Gray Hatchery located on the beautiful East Machias River as we hear about the life stages that an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) experiences in a hatchery and/or wild setting. This discussion of conservation hatcheries will be specific to this Hatchery where we will learn firsthand how these hatcheries are used to improve and increase the salmon populations in our Downeast rivers.

Instructor:  Mitch Monini has a degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture and is a fish hatchery manager who has worked in the region for the last 4yrs. He has been working with various trout and salmon across the country since 2013.

Class Information:  This is an in-person only class held at the Downeast Salmon Federation, 13 Willow Street, East Machias, ME. The building is handicap accessible - they have a ramp in the front of the building and an elevator. The hatchery rooms may not be the easiest for wheelchair access and navigation, but you should have some limited wheelchair access into the back hatchery.
