Areas of Expertise

Uriah Anderson received his PhD in social psychology from Arizona State University. His graduate worked focused on evolutionary social cognition, specifically how fundamental social motivations like protecting ourself and our loved ones, finding a mate, making friends, and gaining status influence the ways we perceive and think about others. For example, if we are worried about our physical safety, what types of people do we attend to? Whom do we remember later?

Since joining UMM in 2011, Dr. Anderson has taught a wide range of online courses in experimental psychology for the Psychology and Community Studies program. After spending his graduate career focused on such a narrow aspect of psychology, he is excited to have a chance to broaden his focus and teach some of the courses that first attracted him to psychology, like Intro to Psychology and Learning and Memory.
