This is a 2-session class: Monday, July 26th and Wednesday, July 28th
The first day of this course will provide participants with an introduction to the discipline of bioethics. Dr. Jones will present a summary of the discipline of philosophy and the place of ethics within that broader discipline as well as a description of bioethics as a distinct discipline within the realm of ethics. In addition, participants will hear an introduction to major moral theories that guide the discipline of bioethics.
The second day will include examples of bioethical issues of relevance to our times. In-class surveys of participants regarding ethical choices may provide participants with a sense of their own ethical stance relative to the major moral theories employed in the discipline.
