Deferment of fees for students eligible for VA benefits may be possible subject to arrangements with the UMaine Machias Business Office.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>VA School Certifying Official<br \/>\n<\/strong>Bill Weaver<br \/>\n(207) 255-1223<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:wweaver@maine.edu\">wweaver@maine.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Admissions Office<br \/>\n<\/strong>(888) 468-6866 or (207) 255-1318<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:ummadmissions@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ummadmissions@maine.edu<\/a><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/machias.edu\/registrar\/contact-us\/\"><strong>Contact Us<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong><a id=\"answer3\"><\/a>In-State Tuition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><em>Veterans and Active Duty Military<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Beginning in the Summer of 2014, veterans of the US military services and those currently serving in the US armed forces are eligible for in-state tuition at the University of Maine at Machias, regardless of their current residency status.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible students should provide one of the following documents to the UMaine Machias Registrar&#8217;s Office:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copy of DD 214 showing honorable discharge<\/li>\n<li>Copy of Certificate of Eligibility for Veterans Benefits (current or expired)<\/li>\n<li>Copy of US Military ID card<\/li>\n<li>Letter from squadron commander confirming that individual is currently serving in the armed forces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When documentation has been received, in-state tuition rates will apply.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Veterans&#8217; Dependents using Educational Entitlements<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Beginning in the Summer of 2015, any military dependent using\u00a0 educational entitlements under a GI Bill is also also eligible for in-state tuition at the University of Maine at Machias, regardless of their current residency status.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible dependents should provide a copy of their unexpired Certificate of Eligibility for Veterans Benefits to the UMaine Machias Registrar&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p>When documentation has been received, in-state tuition rates will apply.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:\u00a0 When In-State tuition rates are applied, financial aid packages (including merit scholarships) which are based on out-of-state tuition rates will need to be adjusted accordingly.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong><a id=\"answer4\"><\/a>Credit for Military Training &amp; Experience<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Veterans of US military service may receive credit for learning gained through documented military training and experience. Applicants with SMART, AARTS or USCG transcripts should submit official copies of same. Transcripts from the Community College of the Air Force should be sent directly from CCAF to the UMaine Machias Registrar&#8217;s Office for evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants whose service pre-dates electronic records should complete form DD-295 and submit with copy of DD-214 (honorable discharge) and copies of all relevant certificates to the Office of the Registrar.<\/p>\n<p>Credit is awarded based on the recommendations of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acenet.edu\/news-room\/Pages\/Military-Guide-Online.aspx\">American Council on Education&#8217;s Guide to Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services<\/a>.
