Judith ‘Jude’ Valentine

Jude Valentine is a visual artist and arts educator working in the media of painting and printmaking. Numerous awards for her work include a Jerome Foundation Fellowship, several Special Opportunity Stipends through the New York Foundation for the Arts, artist in residency grants through the New York Council on the Arts, the National Park Service, and an Individual Grant Award from Cornell University Council of Creative Arts. As a visiting artist, she has been awarded residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, The Stephen Pace House, St. Michael’s Printshop in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation (ME), White Mountain National Forest (NH), Joseph A. Fiore Center for the Arts (ME), Emma International Collaboration (Saskatchewan, Canada) and Monhegan Artist Residency (MARC).

Her prints and paintings have been exhibited widely in New England and New York. She has received two Percent for Art commissions and has exhibited internationally through the Arts in Embassies program of the U. S. State Department.

Teaching at the university level since 1997, and as a visiting artist in schools, she has designed classes and programs for youth and adults. Her teaching has been supported by multiple grants through the Creative Aging, Arts in Education and Early StARTS programs of the Maine Arts Commission and Minsky Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

As an arts administrator, she has developed and implemented programming for the Schweinfurth Arts Center, the History Center (Ithaca, NY), Vermont Arts Exchange, the New York State Alliance for Arts Education, New York State Council on the Arts, the Tides Institute and Museum of Art, and the Farnsworth Art Museum.
In addition, she is a Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) [vtshome.org] facilitator and school trainer, consulting with schools, museums and art centers to implement the VTS curriculum within their programs.
