John Waldman, professor of biology at Queens College, CUNY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Aquatic conservation biologist John Waldman will present the sixth annual Roque Island Lecture on Environmental Conservation on Thursday, March 28 at the University of Maine at Machias.<\/p>\n

The lecture, \u201cAtlantic Rivers: Migratory Fish, Dams, Energy Production and Thoreau,\u201d will be held at 5 p.m. in the UMM Science Building, Room 102. It is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Eastern Maine Conservation Initiative and UMM.<\/p>\n

Waldman is a professor of biology, specializing in fishes, at Queens College, CUNY.\u00a0 He has written about 100 scientific articles and several popular books, including \u201cHeartbeats in the Muck: the History, Sea Life, and Environment of New York Harbor,\u201d which won the 2000 New York City Book Award for Natural History, presented by the New York Society Library.<\/p>\n
