Confused about how to get common software applications like MS Office, Matlab, or SPSS? Do you wish you could easily connect to other printers on campus? You might be interested in a project that is underway called \u201cUniversity of Maine System Active Directory\u201d or \u201cUAD\u201d for short!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><b>What is UAD?<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n\u201cActive Directory\u201d is a Microsoft technology designed to manage user accounts, passwords and access for groups of computers. UAD will standardize UMS computer-related services resulting in streamlined and improved computing support for users, more secure workstations, and flexible self-service options for users.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><b>What will UAD provide?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>A single username and password<\/b>: Use your UMS (MaineStreet) account to log into any UMS computer.<\/li>\n<li><b>Self-Serve software installs:<\/b> UAD provides a software catalog that allows you to install any university-owned software.<\/li>\n<li><b>Self-Service Printer installs:<\/b> Easily install printers near you without waiting for an IT technician\u2019s assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><b>What\u2019s Next?<\/b><\/span><br \/>\nThe UAD has already been built. The next step is to collect information about institution-owned computers to help develop plans for connecting them to the UAD. This will be accomplished on a department-by-department basis, and US:IT will coordinate with departmental leadership to make certain this step is completed with minimal disruption to your work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><b>Do I have to do anything?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No immediate action is needed on your part.<\/li>\n<li>Watch your email closely for more information from US:IT!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>US:IT thanks you for your cooperation and patience during the UAD rollout, and we look forward to serving you in a more up to date, secure, and streamlined computing environment on campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ever wish you didn\u2019t have to remember a different username and password to access your computer and other online resources?
