You can call their hotline at 877-565-8860.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Veterans\u2019 Suicide Prevention Lifeline- 1-800-273-8255<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AMHC Sexual Assault Services 1-800-871-7741\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Sexual Assault Hotline 1.800.656.4673 24-hour hotline, or online: ohl.rainn.org\/online\/\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Next Step Domestic Violence\/Dating Abuse Services- 1-800-315-5579<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Emotional Distress<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are experiencing psychological distress, but are not in a psychological emergence, you can contact the Intentional Warm Line 1-866-771-9276.\u00a0 The line is for the State of Maine and is available 24\/7.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Calming Techniques<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are\u00a0<\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in immediate danger and want to attempt to lower your level of distress try some of the techniques below or check out our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/counseling\/bounce-back\/tackle-stress-3\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stress reduction\u00a0MP3s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 If these do not help, call during our office hours and schedule an appointment at the Counseling Center.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grounding \u2013 Sit comfortably and upright on a chair or sofa with you feet firmly on the floor.\u00a0 Gently press your feet into the floor noticing your legs tighten a little and then relax.\u00a0 Let your shoulders relax.\u00a0 Pay attention to how the ground and chair are supporting you.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Centering \u2013 Ground as described above.\u00a0 Very gently rock your hips until you feel your weight is even settled.\u00a0 Imagine there is a string attached from your tail bone through the top of your head and let your body relax and rise up along that string (don\u2019t \u201csit up\u201d as if at attention).\u00a0\u00a0 Let your shoulders drop and breathe naturally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Breathing \u2013 Imagine you have a straw in your mouth and make a small opening to breathe through.\u00a0 Breathe slowly \u00a0through your mouth and imagine the air is being drawn down to your belly button.\u00a0 Slowly breathe out.\u00a0 Repeat at least 6 times.\u00a0\u00a0 As this becomes easier, pay attention only to your breathing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Planning \u2013 Write down what actions you can take to address the problem.\u00a0 Identify which are feasible and when you can do them.\u00a0 Decide when you will do these.\u00a0 Often just having a plan helps lowers distress.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Distracting \u2013 Make a list of 3-10 things you can do to take your mind off what is upsetting you.
