{"id":4416,"date":"2018-03-06T14:37:10","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T19:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/machias.edu\/academics\/?page_id=4416"},"modified":"2023-08-04T12:06:38","modified_gmt":"2023-08-04T16:06:38","slug":"buying-textbooks","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/machias.edu\/academics\/student-how-tos\/buying-textbooks\/","title":{"rendered":"Buying Textbooks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All textbooks are available from the UMaine Machias Online Bookstore. \u00a0We offer new, used, rental and e-books for various courses. \u00a0Students must have either a credit card or a book voucher to use this site. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are actually 2 ways to determine what books you will need for your classes. \u00a0Pick the method that works best for you. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The easiest way is by logging into your MaineStreet Student Center (Remember to wait 24 hours after email account activation.) \u00a0Follow these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/identity.maine.edu\/cas\/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fidp.maine.edu%2Fidp%2FAuthn%2FExternal%3Fconversation%3De3s1&amp;renew=true&amp;entityId=https%3A%2F%2Fmycampus.maine.edu%2Fc%2Fportal%2Fsaml%2Fmetadata&amp;refresh=true\">umaine.edu\/portal<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Log in by using your username and password <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Across the top drop-down menu, hover over &#8220;campus life&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Click &#8220;Bookstore&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under the &#8220;select a term&#8221; menu, pick the appropriate semester that is also noted as &#8220;Machias&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Select the right department of the book you are searching for. The codes will match the letter of your class listing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Select your matching course number<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Select your correct section number which can be matched up by a section code as well as your assigned professor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The second way is to go to the Online Bookstore from the UMaine Machias website. \u00a0Follow these steps: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/machias.edu\/\">machias.edu<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hover over the Academics menu<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under the &#8220;resource&#8221; list, choose &#8220;bookstore&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Follow the remaining instructions above on searching for class materials<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">**<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IMPORTANT Things to Remember<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">** <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Check to see if the books listed are required or only \u201crecommended.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You do not have to buy your books from the UMaine Machias Online Bookstore. \u00a0Once you find the ISBN number for each book, you can go to any website to shop for the best deal. \u00a0However, your ISBN number must match EXACTLY. \u00a0Most books will have two ISBN numbers: an ISBN-10 (10 digits) and an ISBN-13 (13 digits).
