{"id":3931,"date":"2017-07-07T14:36:46","date_gmt":"2017-07-07T18:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/machias.edu\/academics\/?page_id=3931"},"modified":"2020-01-08T10:57:18","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T15:57:18","slug":"faculty-president-vice-president","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/machias.edu\/academics\/faculty-handbook\/section-ii-organizational-structures-relationships\/faculty-president-vice-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty President and Vice President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"NormalWeb7\">UNIVERSITY\u00a0OF\u00a0MAINE\u00a0AT MACHIAS<\/p>\n<p class=\"NormalWeb7\">Policy &amp; Procedures Manual<br \/>\nSUBJECT: ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE &amp; RELATIONSHIPS SECTION II<br \/>\nDATE: 1\/92, 5\/96, 6\/00, \/05<\/p>\n<p class=\"NormalWeb7\">SECTION: Faculty President and Vice President<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FACULTY PRESIDENT\u00a0<\/strong><strong>AND<\/strong><strong>\u00a0VICE PRESIDENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Need not be tenured, but must be on tenure track.<\/li>\n<li>May also be a division chair.<\/li>\n<li>May also be the Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees.<\/li>\n<li>May not the President or Vice President of UMM.<\/li>\n<li>May serve no more than two consecutive terms.<\/li>\n<li>Must have been a faculty member of UMM for at least three years.<\/li>\n<li>If a member of a standing committee is elected Faculty President or Vice President, he or she must resign from the standing committee and be immediately replaced.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>ROLES FOR FACULTY PRESIDENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Develop agenda in cooperation with committee chairs, administration, and faculty.<\/li>\n<li>Chair meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate preparation, review and distribution of minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Review faculty actions with administration.<\/li>\n<li>Report administrative actions on faculty recommendations to the faculty.<\/li>\n<li>See that timely elections occur for Faculty Standing Committees.<\/li>\n<li>Assist UMM President and the Vice President for Academic Affairs by recommending faculty to serve on Ad-hoc committees, search committees, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as Faculty Marshall for UMM graduation ceremony.<\/li>\n<li>Represent Faculty at special events\/activities, i.e. Board of Trustees receptions, visiting team receptions.<\/li>\n<li>Serve on committee to select Buswell Award recipient.<\/li>\n<li>Assume additional responsibilities as requested by the President and Vice President for Academic Affairs.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare an annual fall report to be presented to the Faculty Meeting and which shall include lists of officers and Standing Committees of the Faculty, a summary of actions of the Faculty adopted by the administration since the last report, and other information of continuing importance at the discretion of the Faculty President.<\/li>\n<li>Before the first faculty meeting of the academic year, work with the Human Resources office to compile a list of voting faculty members.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>ROLES FOR FACULTY VICE PRESIDENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Review workload of committees with standing committee chairs, to avoid duplication and make assignments of tasks to committees.<\/li>\n<li>In absence of the President, the Vice-President shall assume the duties of the Faculty President.<\/li>\n<li>Administer the Faculty Fund and its related activities.<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned by the Faculty President or by majority vote of the faculty body.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNIVERSITY\u00a0OF\u00a0MAINE\u00a0AT MACHIAS Policy &amp; Procedures Manual SUBJECT: ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE &amp; RELATIONSHIPS SECTION II DATE: 1\/92, 5\/96, 6\/00, \/05 SECTION: Faculty President and Vice President ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FACULTY PRESIDENT\u00a0AND\u00a0VICE PRESIDENT Need not be tenured, but must be on tenure track.
