Wiechman Named National Women's Cross Country Player of the Week
First-year runner captures top spot at UNE Invitational
First-year standout Paige Wiechman (Fremont, Ohio) of the UMM women's cross country team captured first place at the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational 5k on September 3. The top finish earned Wiechman the honor of National Player of the Week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). She led the race from start to finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:38 and an eight-second lead over University of New England's Colleen Ahern.
"Paige has the right mindset," said Head Coach Nathaniel Case. "She knows that she can improve, wants to improve, and understands that she needs to work harder now because the runners close to her are going to try to close that gap."
The Clippers men's and women's cross country teams return to running action on Saturday, September 10, at the University of New England Invitational.
