Why UMM?

UMM Students

UMaine-Machias is one of only a few colleges in the United States with an Environmental Liberal Arts (ELA) academic program. Simply put, that means our curriculum interprets the traditional liberal arts in terms of environmental and sustainability issues. ELA explores the relationships between people and nature, and the interconnectedness of those relationships, through traditional academics and through direct experience -- hands-on learning.

With approximately 1,000 students, we have a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average class size of 17 students. If you're looking for a hands-on, personalized education where the campus community is commited to the environment, then UMM is the right fit for you!
