UMM's Board of Visitors Elect Officers

Machias, ME – The University of Maine at Machias Board of Visitors held their annual fall retreat at the Chandler River Lodge in Jonesboro on September 26th. At the meeting, Susan West was re-elected as the group's Chair and James Thompson was elected as Vice Chair for the coming year.

Susan West graduated from UMM in the class of 1975 with a B.S. in Education and Social Science. West is a Financial Representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. She is also a Corporator at Machias Savings Bank, a Corporator at Down East Community Hospital, and serves on the Board of Visitors at Downeast Correctional Facility.

James Thompson earned a B.A. in Social Sciences and History from California State University. Throughout his career Thompson has worked in communications at a number of venues including American Airlines, the Maine Publicity Bureau, and the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. He was owner and publisher of the weekly Piscataquis Observer, and senior editorial officer for daily newspapers in Brunswick, Maine, and Barre-Montpelier, Vermont. Most recently Thompson served as Executive Director of the Downeast Heritage Museum.
