UMM to Host U.S. Senate Primary Forums in May

Maine State SealMACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will host a pair of U.S. Senate candidate forums in May.

A Democratic primary forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 in the Portside room of Kimball Hall. The four Democrats running in the primary and invited to attend are State Senator Cynthia Dill, former Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, State Representative Jon Hinck, and Portland businessman Benjamin Pollard.

A Republican primary forum will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 11 in the Performing Arts Center. The six Republican candidates running in the primary and invited to attend are former State Senator Rick Bennett, businessman Scott D'Amboise, State Senator Debra Plowman, State Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Attorney General William Schneider, and Secretary of State Charlie Summers.

Each candidate will have an opportunity to make brief opening and closing statements and respond to questions from the moderator and audience. Tora Johnson, director of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Service Center, and Ron Mosley, professor of business administration and business law, will moderate the Democratic forum. Jon Reisman, associate professor of economics and public policy, will moderate the Republican primary forum.
