UMM to Host Political Candidate Forums Oct. 21 & 26

Maine State SealMACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will host two forums for political candidates seeking office in county and legislative races.

Candidates on the ballot for House Districts 30, 32, and 33 and State Senate District 29 will participate in a forum at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 21, in the Portside room of Kimball Hall.

Candidates for House seats include incumbent Republican Howard McFadden and Democrat Anna Mather in District 30, incumbent Republican David Burns and Democrat Katherine Cassidy in District 32, and incumbent Republican Diane Tilton and Democrat Larry Finnegan in District 33.

Candidates for the State Senate seat from Washington County include incumbent Republican Kevin Raye and Democrat James Whalen.

Candidates on the ballot for county sheriff and district attorney will participate in a forum at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, in the Portside room of Kimball Hall.

Candidates for Washington County Sheriff include incumbent independent Donald Smith and Republican Dale Earle.

Candidates for district attorney include Democrat Carletta “Dee” Bassano, Republican Matthew Foster, and independent Steven Juskewitch.

UMM professors Jon Reisman and Ron Mosley will serve as moderators at both forums.
