MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will rename its maintenance and support facility during a dedication ceremony on Friday, February 8. The Crandlemire Support Building will be named in memory of the late Donald Crandlemire, UMM’s first director of physical plant.

Crandlemire served as director of physical plant from 1973 to 1996, during a period of significant expansion of campus facilities. During his 23-year career at UMM, Crandlemire oversaw construction of the facility that now bears his name, as well as the Science Building, and the transformation of the old gymnasium in Powers Hall into the 364-seat Performing Arts Center.

Crandlemire passed away in August 2012.

Members of the campus and community are invited to attend the 11 a.m. dedication ceremony. A reception will follow.
