UMM Recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Machias, ME - October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In collaboration with The Next Step Domestic Violence Project, the University of Maine at Machias will hold a tree lighting and vigil, on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m., to honor lives lost, lives saved and those who support people affected by domestic violence. The public is invited to attend.

Thursday, October 30 has been designated as the "day of purple". Commnity members are encouraged to wear purple on this day to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Through-out the month of October, a number of libraries in Washington County, including UMM's Merrill Library, will display books exploring different aspects of domestic abuse. Please check your local library and participate in this Knowledge is Power initiative.

Community members are encouraged to shine a purple light at home during the month of October to symbolize your support for ending domestic abuse.
