UMM Hires Student Success Advisors
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced that Kelsey Kurz of Machias and Garret Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico, have been hired as student success advisors for the University’s new Advising Center.
Kurz and Lee will be responsible for providing advising services to students, specifically first-year students and those at academic risk.
Kurz is a 2011 graduate of UMM, where she earned a B.S. in Environmental Recreation and Tourism Management. While at UMM, she served as a teaching assistant and tutor in the first-year seminar program and as a program aide at the University’s Sail Loft.
Lee received an M.A. in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico and a B.A. in English from Eastern Washington University.
Prior to joining UMM, Lee served as the program coordinator for math and science in the Center for Academic Program Support at the University of New Mexico. Before that, he worked as an area coordinator in UNM’s Resident Education program and as a resident director at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.
“I am excited to have Kelsey and Garret on board for UMM’s new Advising Center,” said Matthew Holsapple, director of the Advising Center. “Each of them brings a unique perspective to this position and they will serve as tremendous resources as we work to ensure the academic success of every student.”
Kurz and Lee began their responsibilities at UMM on July 25.
