UMM Hires Paul LaMantia as Director of Student Life
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced that Paul LaMantia of Marshall, Minnesota, has been hired as the University’s new director of student life. LaMantia will be responsible for all aspects of student life, including residence life and dining, campus activities, health services and counseling, recreation and fitness, and judicial affairs.
“I am very pleased that Paul will be joining us here at UMM,” said President Cynthia Huggins. “He comes to us with many years of experience in student life, and his proven strategies and ideas will further enhance the services we provide to our students. Paul’s passion for improving the quality of life for students and his enthusiasm for the Downeast region will make him a great fit.”
LaMantia comes to UMM from Southwest Minnesota State University where he has served as the director of the student center and the director of residence life since 2006. Prior to Southwest Minnesota, he spent more than 20 years directing student and residential life operations at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Iona College, New York University, State University of New York at Stony Brook, and University of Missouri-Columbia.
“There are two major reasons that I am attracted to the UMM community,” said LaMantia. “UMM’s focus on Environmental Liberal Arts and the Downeast area really make this a special place for learning. I can’t wait to get started.”
LaMantia holds a master’s degree in college student personnel services from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from California State College.
LaMantia will begin his duties at UMM in September.
