Salt Coast Sages to Launch Poetry E-Book with Reading on Nov. 14
MACHIAS, Maine – Electronic publication of a poetry book by the Salt Coast Sages will be launched at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 14. The public is invited to attend the free event in the Art Gallery of Powers Hall at the University of Maine at Machias.
The Salt Coast Sages are an area poetry group which published in traditional form a book titled A Rump-Sprung Chair and a One-Eyed Cat. Now the book will be published by Primavera Press in electronic form.
Gerard NeCastro, UMM English professor and director of Primavera Press, will host the event, and the Salt Coast Sages will read from the book. The Sages are Sharon Bray of Orland, Donald Crane of Milbridge, Gerald George of East Machias, and Grace Sheridan of Cutler.
Poems from the book have been chosen by Maine’s poet laureate, Wesley McNair, for re-publication in an anthology titled Take Heart, Poems of Maine.
M. Kelly Lombardi, now deceased, founded and named the group, which came together in her poetry class in the Sunrise Senior College at UMM. The Sages sponsor the annual Roque Bluffs Poetry Festival and have read their work widely through the Downeast area.
A Rump-Sprung Chair and a One-Eyed Cat will be available electronically from amazon.com as a Kindle e-book published by Primavera Press. More details are available on the Primavera Press web site: www.primaverapress.com.
The event will be co-sponsored by UMM’s Dead Poets Society. For further information, please contact Gerard NeCastro at 255-1293.
