Location: Science Building 102
MACHIAS, Maine – If you have ever thought of starting a business, or own one and want to take it to the next level, an upcoming workshop can prove very valuable to your success. In celebration of Maine Entrepreneurship Week, the University of Maine at Machias will host a small business workshop from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, in room 102 of the Science Building.
Beginning at 3 p.m., the first hour will showcase a panel of experienced local business owners who will share their tips for success; in addition, attendees will receive a useful guide to local and state business resources geared for entrepreneurs of all levels. From 4 to 5 p.m. a panel of lenders will share their views about what they seek from loan applicants, followed by a question and answer session. Then from 5 to 6 p.m. some participants will have the opportunity for 20-minute one-on-one coaching sessions to get feedback and advice on the next steps in their entrepreneurial journeys.
“This will provide a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to network and learn about the resources available to them,” said Brenda Frey, Career Development Coordinator at UMM. “We are fortunate to be able to provide so many resources in one place at one time.”
While this is a free event open to the general public, advance registration is required. To reserve your space, call Brenda Frey at 255-1439 or e-mail email@example.com before February 10. If you are interested in booking a coaching session, please note there will be a maximum of only 15 slots available so early sign-ups are advised.
Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance.
The panel of local business owners will include Fat Cat Deli, Curves, Quoddy Bay Lobster, Pineo’s True Value, and McGuire Seasonal Services.
The panel of lenders will feature representatives from Sunrise County Economic Council, Bangor Savings Bank, Machias Savings Bank, the Finance Authority of Maine, and U. S. Small Business Administration Maine District Office.
This E-Week event is sponsored by the University of Maine at Machias, Women's Business Center at Coastal Enterprises, Inc., Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, and MDOL/Washington County CareerCenters, with participating partners including Sunrise County Economic Council, Maine Small Business Development Center, Down East Business Alliance, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Four Directions Development Corporation, the Finance Authority of Maine, Machias Savings Bank, and Bangor Savings Bank.
