Superintendents Present Excellence in Education Award to UMM’s Gael Romei

Gael Romei, Associate Professor of EducationMACHIAS, Maine – The Washington County Superintendents’ Association recently presented their Excellence in Education Award to Gael Romei, associate professor of education at the University of Maine at Machias, for her dedication to education in Washington County.

Romei will retire at the end of June after 12 years at UMM, where she has taught various courses in the education program and served as the field experience coordinator, overseeing the placement and success of the program’s student teachers.

In presenting the award, the WCSA said that Romei’s work with both reading recovery teachers and aspiring student teachers has made a positive impact on the region’s schools and their students.

Prior to arriving at UMM in 2001, Romei was the reading recovery teacher leader for 11 years in School Union #102 and School Administrative District #37, training teachers in Washington and Hancock counties in the early intervention reading program for first-grade students who needed assistance. She also served as the curriculum coordinator for School Union #102 and a third- and fourth-grade teacher at Rose M. Gaffney School in Machias.
