Students Partner with UMaine Extension to "Keep ME Warm"
MACHIAS, ME – The Keep ME Warm program sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Washington County: One Community partnered with students in UMM’s Environmental Recreation and Tourism Management program recently to winterize 32 homes in Washington County.
Students in the Recreation Maintenance and Operations class attended training in September, where they learned how to install indoor window kits, caulk, and put up banking and outside plastic. Door draft stoppers were made by a group of local volunteers and students assembled them for distribution.
In November, students volunteered on four different days to winterize homes for elderly and limited income individuals. The students shared energy saving tips with homeowners in addition to helping them with the winterization work.
The project was a wonderful collaboration between two campuses of the University of Maine System.
