Added on: November 22, 2011

One Night, Two Basketball Games, One Bake Sale & Bottle Drive, Many Community Partners,
1,250 Pounds of Food Collected for Washington County Families!

On November 9th, the students of Meghan Duff’s Social Psychology class held a bake sale and bottle drive at the UMM vs. Lee/Maine Maritime Academy basketball games. The drive’s aim was to raise money and awareness for the Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance, a program that provides healthy food, food security, and fuel assistance to those in need in Downeast Maine. The bake sale and bottle drive, which were also sponsored by Greek Council, the 100% Society, Campus Cru For Christ, UMM Athletics, Helen’s Restaurant, Parlin’s Bakery, Whole Life Market, and Machias River Redemption, raised enough money to purchase over 1,250 pounds of food – and the project still continues. Please consider donating your bottles at Machias River Redemption to Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance. So many community members have contributed and continue to contribute. It’s easy to do your part!
