About the Student Union
The Student Union at UMM is called Kimball Hall. This is the second oldest building on campus, opening as a women's residence hall in 1915. The building was later renamed after Dr. Phillip Kimball who served as President of the University of Maine at Machias from 1927 - 1942. Kimball Hall has since been repurposed to serve the campus community as the Student Union and offices for numerous student organizations and faculty.
Portside serves as the student lounge and hub for major events and activities all in one space! With TVs, soft seating, tables, chairs, and a fully equipped stage it is easy to understand why this is a major fixture on campus. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to study during the day or looking to enjoy one of our many evening activities, Portside has something to offer everyone.
The Student Union has a dining area called, "The Pod" or as many students call it, "The Galley". This area is a one stop shop for quick snacks, lunch/dinner, UMM Swag, or even school supplies! Students are able to use "Galley Bucks" and meal equivilancy when ordering food. This is a nice alternative for students who regularly eat meals on campus at Kilburn Commons, as well as a great convenience for commuter students and the UMM staff and administration.
Kimball Hall features a great game room for all our students, faculty, and staff. With 2 pool tables, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, darts, gaming consoles, music, tv, and more, the UMM Game Room is a great place to have fun, relax, and unwind!
Student Organization Offices
The Student Union is home to some student organization offices including: Campus Radio Station - WUMM, Student Senate, and ARABY/The Dead Poets Society.
In addition to housing offices for many UMM's great faculty, the Student Union is home to the Office of Student Life, Campus Activities Office, and our Gender & Sexual Diversity Resource Center!
