Solicitation & Posting Policy

The university expects each resident or visitor to respect the privacy of other residents.

  • No student may represent any outside agency or campus organization in selling or distributing products or services in the residence hall.
  • Students shall not use nor permit their rooms to be used for any sales.
  • Door to door solicitation, selling or canvassing in the residence halls is strictly prohibited.

Posting Materials in the Residence Halls

This policy shall apply to any department or student organization affiliated with the University of Maine at Machias.

  • All posters need to be approved by the Director of Student Life Office or one of the Resident Directors.  The process for getting posters approved is as follows:
  • Signs larger then 8 1/2 by 11 will not be approved due to limited space.  The only exception to this is the student activities poster for major weekends and the monthly calendar, sports calendars and Greek Rush information.
  • Signs may be approved for a range of time and the request must give a start and end date.
  • Once the posters are approved they will be distributed to the RAs through their mailboxes.  RAs will hang them up on the bulletin boards on their floors.
  • Clubs/organizations that wish to post signs in the main lobby areas must also get signs approved and then give them to the RDs to post in the main lobby areas.
  • When posting signs, all four corners must be stapled down due to state Fire Marshall.
  • Groups are responsible for not covering up any other posters and removing all posters when the event is over
  • The University reserves the right to deny posting privileges or remove materials that violate any provisions of the Code or other University regulations or procedures.
  • Failure by an organization to follow the procedures for posting materials may result in refusal to continue posting materials received from that organization.
  • The hall staff or students may refer any infractions of this policy to the Associate Director of Student Life.
