Sparks The Rescue to Perform at Winter Frost Feb. 5
MACHIAS,
Maine – The University of Maine at Machias is pleased to present the
rock band Sparks The Rescue, with opening act Tan Vampires, at 8 p.m. on
Saturday, February 5. The concert is part of UMM’s Winter Frost
celebration.
A five-piece band from Portland, Maine, Sparks The Rescue has been
playing music for nearly a decade. The group is comprised of Alex Roy
(vocals), Patrick O’Connell (guitar), Toby McAllister (guitar), Ben
Briggs (bass), and Nathan Spencer (drums). Sparks The Rescue, named
after Nicolas Sparks’ novel The Rescue, was spawned from three local
bands that decided to become one single entity.
In 2005, the band released a six-song EP, The Secrets We Can’t Keep.
It didn’t take long for their music to catch the ear of Portland radio
station WCYY, and soon requests for their songs came pouring in. In
addition, they have sold over 10,000 units of the EP on iTunes.
Sparks The Rescue released their debut full-length album, Eyes To The
Sun, in 2009 on Fearless Records. Tracks from the album have received
play on MTV’s The Hills and Real World: Cancun. Over the past few years,
the band has toured with many well-known national acts, including The
All American Rejects and Hawthorne Heights.
The Winter Frost concert will take place in the Performing Arts
Center and doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for the public and
free for UMM students. Tickets will be available at the door or in
advance at the UMM First Stop in Powers Hall (255-1470) and the Office
of Student Activities in Dorward Hall (255-1245).
