Students to Present on Soliya Experiences Dec. 16
MACHIAS, ME – Students in an interactive, cross-cultural course at the
University of Maine at Machias will share their experiences on
Wednesday, December 16 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in room 102 of the Science
Building.
Participants in the Soliya Connect program, which aims to connect
students in the United States to students in the Middle East, will
discuss their semester readings, share insight gained from their
international online discussion groups, and will premiere a video
project that they created.
Soliya is an organization associated with the United Nations that
is using technology to facilitate dialogue between students from
diverse backgrounds across the globe. According to Assistant Professor
of Psychology Meghan Duff, “Soliya is trying to build a better
understanding between students in ‘the West’ and students in
predominantly ‘Arab and Muslim Countries.’ In a post 9/11 world this is
a really valuable experience for our students and communities.”
For more information about Soliya, visit the organization on the Web at www.soliya.org.
The presentation at UMM is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Meghan Duff at (207) 255-1227.
