MACHIAS, Maine – An art show that appeals to the senses of sight, sound, and touch will be on display at the University of Maine at Machias Art Galleries during the month of February. “Painters, Players & Poets” showcases the work of Maine’s finest musicians, visual artists, writers, and furniture makers. An opening reception is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 10.
“Painters, Players and Poets” is a unique collaboration celebrating the talents of 48 Maine artists and artisans. Included in the project are 16 painters, 9 players/composers, 7 poets, and 16 chair makers.
In 2009, writer/producer Con Fullam asked several well-known Maine composers and poets to identify a living Maine painter whose work inspired them, and to then choose a specific painting to interpret through poem or musical composition. The process was completed in July 2011 and the resulting exhibit has been traveling around the state ever since.
Thanks to hand-crafted chairs and benches made by Maine’s finest furniture makers, people can sit comfortably as they view the interactive exhibit. Each station includes a chair, a piece of artwork, and an iPod with the corresponding song or poem.
