UMM Seeks Travelers for Spring Trip to Italy
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias is planning a nine-day excursion to Italy in the spring of 2013 for both UMM students and interested community members. English Professor Gerard NeCastro is organizing the tour, which will run March 30 – April 7, and will include tours of Florence, Rome, Venice, and Pisa.

Belfast Writers Buckmaster and Garber to Read at UMM Oct. 2
MACHIAS, Maine – The Maine Writers Series at the University of Maine at Machias will host Belfast writers Elizabeth Garber and Linda Buckmaster for a reading at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2. The two will read from their poetry, memoir, and fiction.

Classes of 1961 & 1962 Honored at Alumni Lobster Feed
MACHIAS, Maine – The Mac Sennett Lobster Feed and Alumni Reunion was held Saturday, August 18, at the University of Maine at Machias. More than 80 UMM alumni, staff, faculty, and other friends and family gathered to reconnect and enjoy a Downeast Maine meal of lobsters and clams.

UMM Provost Swain to Step Down, Return to Teaching
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced that Dr. Stuart Swain will step down as the University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs at the end of the year. Swain has served as the institution’s top academic officer since January 2005.

Making the Grade: UMM Program Provides Training for Service Dogs and their Owners
MACHIAS, Maine – This summer, the University of Maine at Machias ran a unique program to help disabled individuals train their pet dogs to be service animals. The program, made possible through a grant from the Maine Charity Fund, provided training in obedience, public access, and specific tasks for nine dogs and their owners.
