Maine Writers Series to Host Poets Brown and Lawson on Nov. 13
MACHIAS, Maine – The Maine Writers Series at the University of Maine at Machias will host poets Michael Brown and Valerie Lawson for a reading at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13. Brown and Lawson are known for promoting the poetry slam, a competition in which authors read or recite original works.

Documentary on North Korea to be Shown at UMM Nov. 9
MACHIAS, Maine – Representatives from the organization Liberty in North Korea will present a documentary film at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9 at the University of Maine at Machias. The presentation, sponsored by UMM Student Senate, will focus on the atrocities against human rights in North Korea.

Passamaquoddy Basketmaker to be Honored at UMM During Native American Meal
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias Diversity Committee and Aramark will host a luncheon celebration of Native American heritage and history from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 at Kilburn Commons. Passamaquoddy basketmaker Molly Neptune Parker, the recipient of a 2012 Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts, will be recognized during the event.

2014 Trip to China Announced, Info Sessions on Oct. 24 and Nov. 3
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced plans for an eleven-day trip to China in May 2014 for both students and community members. The trip will run May 19 through 29, 2014. Information sessions about the trip are scheduled for Wednesday, October 24 at 6 p.m., and Saturday, November 3 at 1 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the UMM Science Building, room 102.

UMM to Host Legislative Candidates Forum on October 18
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will hold a legislative candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 in the Portside room of Kimball Hall. Candidates on the ballot for State House Districts 30, 32, and 33 and State Senate District 29 have been invited to participate in the forum.

USM, UMM Enrolling Students for Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling Program
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Southern Maine, in collaboration with the University of Maine at Machias, is currently enrolling students for its 54-credit graduate degree in rehabilitation counseling. The Machias cohort will begin coursework in summer 2013.

Ordman Alley '64 and Carroll LaHaye '77 to be Inducted into Athletics Hall of Fame
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has announced this year’s inductees into the UMM Clipper Athletics Hall of Fame. Ordman Alley, Sr. ’64 of Beals and Carroll LaHaye ’77 of Ashland, Virginia, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during Homecoming and Family Weekend on Saturday, September 29.

Kuhl Exhibit to Open at UMM Art Galleries on October 5
MACHIAS, Maine – The Art Galleries at the University of Maine at Machias will display the work of Harpswell artists Georgeann and Condon Kuhl from October 5 through November 30, in an exhibit titled “Tuscany to Pompeii and Beyond.” An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 5.
