Art Galleries to Display Photographs by Bert Lincoln Call
The Art Galleries at the University of Maine at Machias will feature the traveling exhibit Maine’s Woods: Observations by Bert Lincoln Call and Henry David Thoreau from November 10 through December 17. An opening reception will be held from 5–7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10.

UMM to Host Political Candidate Forums Oct. 21 & 26
The University of Maine at Machias will host two forums for political candidates seeking office in county and legislative races. Candidates on the ballot for House Districts 30, 32, and 33 and State Senate District 29 will participate in a forum at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 21. Candidates on the ballot for county sheriff and district attorney will participate in a forum at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 26.

UMM Students Plan Haunted Forest for Oct. 28 & 29
Students at the University of Maine at Machias will coordinate the Annual Machias Community Haunted Forest on Thursday, October 28 and Friday, October 29 behind Machias Memorial High School. The Haunted Forest will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each night on the nature trail and admission is $2 per person.

UMM Athletics Offering Free Youth Soccer Program
The University of Maine at Machias Clippers Athletic Department is offering a six-week youth soccer program for children in the Machias area. The program begins Saturday, September 25, and is free to all Washington County children in grades Pre-K through six.

Sustainability Survival Pack Given to New Students
When new students moved into their residence halls at the University of Maine at Machias on Friday, August 27, they were welcomed with a survival pack. But, the kit didn’t contain band-aids, a compass, or matches. Instead, it was full of items designed to help students reduce their impact on the environment.

New Students Tour the Sights of Downeast Maine
First-year students at the University of Maine at Machias were treated to a tour of some of Downeast Maine’s most beautiful viewpoints and recreational spots on Saturday, August 28. The excursion trips, part of fall orientation, were planned to show new students what the area has to offer and to help them get to know one another.

Homecoming Set for September 24 - 26
The University of Maine at Machias will hold its annual Homecoming & Family Weekend, Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26. This year’s homecoming will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first classes offered at UMM.

UMM to Host Libra Speaker Alston Chase on Sept. 9
The University of Maine at Machias will host guest speaker Alston Chase on Thursday, September 9 as part of its Libra Distinguished Lecture Series. Chase will give a talk titled “The Philosophy of Environmentalism” at 6:30 p.m. in the Portside room of Kimball Hall.
