WUMM Radio Station to Host Battle of the Bands, March 19
MACHIAS, Maine – WUMM 91.7 FM, the student-run radio station at the University of Maine at Machias, will host its third annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, March 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

UMM Students to Participate in Nationwide Genomics Research
First-year students at the University of Maine at Machias will soon have the opportunity to search for undiscovered organisms in the dirt, thanks to an innovative genomics course funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).

Sparks The Rescue to Perform at Winter Frost Feb. 5
The University of Maine at Machias is pleased to present the rock band Sparks The Rescue, with opening act Tan Vampires, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 5. The concert is part of the UMM’s Winter Frost celebration.

Artist Paula Dougherty on Exhibit at UMM
The Art Galleries at the University of Maine at Machias will host Brooklin artist Paula Dougherty during February and March. Her exhibit of life and figure drawings will be on display through March 18.

Zach Armstrong Scores 1,000th Career Point
Junior forward Zach Armstrong (Waldoboro, Maine) reached the 1,000 career point mark in the University of Maine at Machias Clippers’ January 13th road game against College of Saint Joseph in Rutland, Vermont. Despite UMM’s 108-83 loss to the Fighting Saints, Armstrong tallied 16 points and four rebounds.

UMM Receives National Recognition for Community Engagement
The University of Maine at Machias has been awarded the prestigious 2010 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The classification recognizes UMM for its extraordinary service-learning and community service activities.

Register for Spring Courses
Registration for spring courses at the University of Maine at Machias is open to current students and members of the public at this time. Among the courses scheduled for the spring semester, 270 classes will take place onsite, more than 40 will be available online, and 25 will take place during the shortened May term.

UMM Announces Annual Writing Competition
The Binnacle, the literary and arts magazine of the University of Maine at Machias, is sponsoring its Eighth Annual Ultra-Short Competition, open to writers in Washington County and around the globe. Interested writers of short narratives in prose or poetry of fewer than 150 words (poetry of sixteen lines or fewer) are welcome to submit their works.
