UMM to Host Community Holiday Party Dec. 19
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will host its annual Community Holiday Party on Monday, December 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kilburn Commons. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature food and games for all ages to celebrate the holiday season.

UMM Basketball Coach Brady Records 100th Win
MACHIAS, Maine – University of Maine at Machias men’s basketball coach Brac Brady recorded his 100th win in a 63-57 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle on Tuesday, December 6. Brady has compiled a 100-73 record in seven seasons at UMM.

Katherine Richardson Receives Maine Bankers Scholarship
MACHIAS, Maine – The trustees of the Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation (MeHEAF) are pleased to announce the awarding of a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to Katherine Richardson, a business and entrepreneurial studies major at the University of Maine at Machias. She is a graduate of Machias Memorial High School.

UMM Senior to Showcase Melted Crayon Art in Solo Show
MACHIAS, Maine – Kaitlyn Burke, a University of Maine at Machias senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts, will take part in her first solo art show at the UMM Art Galleries. Her exhibit of melted crayon art and illustrated children’s poems will be on display December 6 through January 20. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Tuesday, December 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., providing an opportunity to meet the artist and hear about her work.

Students Collect 1,250 Pounds of Food for Washington County Families
On November 9th, the students of Meghan Duff’s Social Psychology class held a bake sale and bottle drive at the UMM vs. Lee/Maine Maritime Academy basketball games. The drive’s aim was to raise money and awareness for the Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance, a program that provides healthy food, food security, and fuel assistance to those in need in Downeast Maine.

UMM Offering New "Green" Degree Options
MACHIAS, Maine – To prepare students for careers in the emerging green economy, the University of Maine at Machias is offering several new academic programs in environmental stewardship and sustainability. A certificate in Sustainability, a minor in Sustainability Management, and a concentration in Outdoor and Environmental Education are being offered for the first time this fall.

UMM Receives Grant to Increase Access to Early College
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has received a $15,000 grant to expand its early college services for area high school students. The Maine Community Foundation and Common Good Ventures awarded the grant as part of the Program for Nonprofit Effectiveness, a partnership currently focused on increasing access to post-secondary education for Mainers.

UMM Receives Award for Tobacco-Free Efforts
MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias has been selected by the Maine Tobacco-Free College Network to receive a Gold Star Standards of Excellence award for its efforts to create tobacco-free environments and support tobacco-free lifestyles. UMM is one of eight colleges or universities in Maine to be recognized with the award.
