Juried Student Art Show Accepting Submissions
The Interdisciplinary Fine Arts program has announced that it is accepting submissions for the 2012 Juried Student Art Show. The selected works will be displayed April 6–20 in the UMM Art Galleries.

Giant Map of South America Coming to UMM in April
MACHIAS, Maine – Local youth will have the opportunity to scale the peaks of the Andes Mountains and follow the Amazon River through the Brazilian rain forest when a giant map of South America rolls into Machias next month. As part of the National Geographic Giant Traveling Maps program, the University of Maine at Machias will display an oversized map of South America on Monday, April 9. The 26-foot by 35-foot vinyl map will be rolled out on the Reynolds Center Gymnasium floor from 1 to 5 p.m.

Suicide Prevention Walk Planned for March 10 at UMM
MACHIAS, Maine – Students at the University of Maine at Machias are planning an Out of the Darkness Community Walk for Saturday, March 10 to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Reynolds Center Gymnasium and the walk starts at 9 a.m.

UMM Students Plan Sixth Annual Disabilities Awareness Night, March 21
MACHIAS, Maine – Students in the Recreation Services for Special Populations class at the University of Maine at Machias will host the Sixth Annual Disabilities Awareness Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21 in the Reynolds Center Gymnasium.

Clippers Headed to National Tournament
The University of Maine at Machias men’s basketball team is heading to the national tournament. Despite an opening round loss in last week’s conference tournament, the Clippers earned an at-large berth into the USCAA Men’s Basketball National Championships, to be held March 6-10 on the Penn State Fayette campus in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Opening Party for New UMM Ice Rink on March 1
MACHIAS, Maine – A new public outdoor ice skating rink at the University of Maine at Machias is set to open this week. An opening celebration is planned for 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 1.

Clippers Rack Up Basketball Conference Honors
CONCORD, N.H. — NHTI, Concord’s Community College was the host site for the Yankee Small College Conference Men’s and Women’s Elite Eight Basketball Tournament. Winter Walkers Exercise and Socialize at UMM Fitness Center
MACHIAS, Maine – Twice a week, 40 to 50 people lace up their sneakers and hit the hardwood floor at UMM’s Reynolds Center Gymnasium. But they’re not shooting hoops. This steadfast group of seniors has spent the winter months walking circuits around the gym as a way to exercise and socialize with others.
